Markel American Insurance Company Goes Live with Duck Creek’s EXAMPLE Platform®

Niche market insurer looks to Duck Creek for flexible policy management system

Bolivar, MO, May 22, 2007 —Duck Creek Technologies, Inc., a provider of policy management solutions for the insurance industry, today announced that Markel American Insurance Company (MAIC), a Wisconsin-based niche-market insurer, has gone live with its new Markel Boat Program, built on Duck Creek’s EXAMPLE Platform®.

The new system was implemented in 12 months, and will enable MAIC’s agents to rapidly quote, bind and issue small boat insurance via the web. The insurer plans to move additional lines of business to the new policy management system over the next several months. In addition, the EXAMPLE Platform® was integrated with MAIC’s billing system for a streamlined process.

With two custom-built systems already in place, MAIC found their legacy environment costly to maintain and not conducive to easy development or deployment of new products. The modern technology of the EXAMPLE Platform®, with its tools-based approach, provided the insurer with the power and flexibility required - without compromising the self-sufficiency desired by MAIC – to develop and maintain its own products and environment.
